Overview

The iVolt Xtra [BAB-95] powers parking surveillance from its own cell rather than the car's battery — the largest of Thinkware's external packs.

Runtime

• Up to 37 hours in parking mode with a front camera
• Up to 27 hours with a rear camera added
• Recharges fully in 45 minutes of driving

Those numbers are the point. Hardwired to the car's battery, parking mode typically gets a handful of hours before the voltage cut-off shuts it down to protect your ability to start the engine. An external battery removes that trade-off entirely — the camera keeps watching and your starter battery is never touched.

Worth It If

• You leave the car parked for a day or more at a time
• You park on the street overnight and want full coverage until morning
• Your car has a start-stop system or sensitive battery management that makes hardwiring risky
