Track Prep & Track Day Maintenance in Andover, NJ

A track day asks more of a car in one afternoon than the street does in months: sustained heat, repeated hard braking and long periods at high load. Fluids that are fine for commuting can break down, and brakes that feel fine on the road can fade by the third session. Track prep is maintenance done with that in mind. We prep and inspect track cars at our shop on Route 206 in Andover so the car arrives at the event ready to be driven hard, and so you know what it needs afterwards.

What track prep covers

  • Pre-Track Day inspection, before the event
  • Post-Track Day inspection, after the event
  • Engine oil and filter, chosen for how hard the car is driven
  • Differential oil
  • Transmission oil
  • Race brake pads, fitted to the car
  • High-temperature brake fluid, with a full system bleed
  • The rest of what a track car needs before an event. We go through the car with you and quote what it actually needs.

How we do it

  1. Start with the car and the event. Stock or modified, street tires or slicks, one track day a year or twelve: fluids and pads depend on the answer, so we ask before we quote.
  2. Service the fluids. Engine, differential and transmission oil go in to the correct spec for the car.
  3. Fit the race pads and flush the brakes. The system is bled with high-temperature fluid until the pedal is firm.
  4. Inspect the car. The checks below find a small problem in the shop rather than on track.
  5. Send you off with a plain list of anything worth watching or fixing before the next event.

Pre-Track Day inspection

The inspection to book before an event. We go over the car for the things that matter when it is run hard:

  • Brakes: pad thickness, rotor condition and brake fluid condition
  • Tires: wear, damage and pressures
  • Wheels and lug nuts: torque and condition
  • Suspension and steering: play, worn bushings and mounts, and loose hardware
  • Fluid levels, leaks, hoses and belts

Book it a few days before the event, so there is time to fix anything we find.

Post-Track Day inspection

A day on track shows what the car really thinks of its setup. The inspection to book after an event looks for what the day did to it:

  • Brakes: pad and rotor wear, cracks or heat damage, and fluid condition
  • Tires: wear pattern, which also shows whether the alignment and pressures suit the car
  • Wheels and lug nuts: re-torque, and a check for damage
  • Suspension and steering: anything that has loosened, bent or started leaking
  • Engine, differential and transmission: oil level, leaks and any oil that needs changing
  • Underbody: damage from curbs, debris or off-track excursions

You get a plain list of what is fine, what to watch and what needs doing before the next event.

Why it matters

  • High-temperature brake fluid has a higher boiling point, so the pedal stays firm when the brakes are hot instead of going long
  • Race pads are built to work at track temperatures, where street pads fade
  • Fresh engine, differential and transmission oil protects the most expensive parts of the car
  • A problem found in the shop costs less than one found at the track

Race pads are not right for every car. If yours is also a daily driver, tell us and we will tell you honestly whether a race compound or a more street-friendly pad suits it better.
