Track Day Tool Kit: What to Bring

Most track-day fixes are small: a loose bolt, a wheel to check, a panel that needs reattaching. You don't need a full toolbox in the paddock, just the right handful of tools in one place.

A torque wrench and the right socket

Wheel nuts are the one job you'll repeat all day. Bring a torque wrench that covers your wheel torque spec, and a socket that fits your nuts. If your wheels have narrow nut holes, a thin-wall wheel nut socket is the safer bet. Check the nuts between sessions, not just before the first one. Our torque wrench guide covers what to look for.

A ratchet, a few sockets and an extension

For everything else, a compact socket set with a ratchet and an extension handles most of it: undertrays, brake ducts, splitters, mirrors. Stick to the sizes your car actually uses. There's more on picking sockets in our socket guide.

Hex and Torx keys

Aero parts, seats and trim often use hex or Torx fasteners. A small set of hex and Torx wrenches weighs nothing and gets used more than you'd think.

Something for clips and trim

Clip removers and pick-up tools make it easier to pop off undertrays and trim without breaking the clips. See clip, trim and pick-up tools.

A case or tray to keep it together

The best tool you left in the garage doesn't help you. A hard case or magnetic tray keeps fasteners from disappearing under the car. We built the ANBD x TONE Trackside Tool Box with TONE for exactly this: drivers who wrench between sessions.
